Who We Are

The North Wood County Historical Society was established in 1956. The Historical Society is the caretaker of many historical articles that have been generously donated from individuals desiring to bring the past back to life!  The Historical Society hopes to accomplish this by preserving the stories, memories and culture of the people who have lived in the North Wood County area and make them available to the public.

The North Wood County Historical Society currently has 134 members, and is always excepting new members to participate! Individuals, Families and Businesses are all welcome to participate. Membership to the Historical society provides wonderful benefits to businesses and citizens alike. For more information on membership please contact us.

An important part of what a community does is preserve its history. Please help us continue in preserving the North Wood County History!

NWCHS is housed in the Governor W.H. Upham House aka Upham Mansion; an 1880 Italianate style house built for William Upham's family.

What We Do

The North Wood County Historical Society is a non- profit, volunteer run organization and its purposes are exclusively educational:

  1. To preserve, advance, and disseminate knowledge of the history of Marshfield, the surrounding area, and the State of Wisconsin.
  2. To maintain the Upham Mansion and to preserve the contents and such articles as may be given to the Society.
  3. Provide educational guided tours to the public.

The Society has wonderful events and fundraisers in the community. Please become a Fan of our group to receive updates on our activities.
