Join a group of folks who meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays to scan negatives donated to the North Wood County Historical Society by the Marshfield News Herald!

You can help with the scanning process (we will teach you!) Or if you are good with entering information on an excel spreadsheet, we are in need of someone to help enter identified images into the database.

History enthusiasts, look no further -- this is the volunteer opportunity for you! Help preserve Wood County history for generations to come!

The North Wood County Historical Society needs help cataloging photos and negatives in their visual resources collection. This would include scanning, identifying, and entering data into excel spreadsheet. Skills that are helpful include knowledge of excel, ability to concentrate & stay organized while cataloging, patience, attention to detail, and, of course, an interest in history!

This project is open to individuals or very small groups. The NWCHS has limited hardware (scanner, computers, etc) so if you have your own and would like to put together a team to work on this project, that is also an option!

This project will be conducted at the Governor Upham House (212 W. 3rd St.) which is an accessible building and open on designated Saturdays each month, from 10am – 4pm. Interested volunteers would be able to come as able.

Volunteers will work with The Master Gardner's in maintaining the grounds of the Upham Mansion. 

Our grounds maintenance includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

Garden Prep: raking leaves and cleaning flower beds Cultivating Flower Beds Removing Weeds Removing burlap winter protection roses, prune dead wood Prepare all garden beds for wood mulch  Monarch Butterfly Migration  Plant annual flowers Water annual flowers weed prevention spray and trim roses

 

 

Assist the Historical Coordinator with projects. Help fulfill the needs of the Historical Society through advertising events and facilitate community involvement. Position requires a personal computer for working on projects independently. Position requires the volunteer to have an active email account. This is a wonderful position for someone who is good with working independently on projects and can work with dead lines.

The North Wood County Historical Society offers reference letters to volunteers who complete 6 months of involvement.

The Historical Society could use some extra hands to help with donated material that needs to be processed and put into our data base. Some knowledge with excel is helpful but not necessary; however, attention to detail is key. The NWCHS Coordinator will oversee and direct each project.

Material includes archival documents and some artifacts.

The North Wood County Historical Society is looking to bring 2 more Docent on board! 

Are you interested in your local history? Do you have an interest in educating others? If so, look no further! This position comes with training and a name badge! We need Docent Volunteers on Wednsday's and Saturday's.
