Who We Are
Volunteer at St. Croix Hospice!
When you volunteer at St. Croix Hospice, you’re giving the gift of time and comfort to patients facing end-stage illnesses who, along with their families, have chosen to enter hospice care. Our volunteers provide companionship, emotional support and compassionate help when patients and families need it most.
The St. Croix Hospice Difference
The St. Croix Hospice team provides exceptional hospice care with an emphasis on quality of life. Our holistic care model offers physical, emotional and spiritual support uniquely tailored to our patients’ unique needs and wishes. When you join our team as a volunteer, you’re making a difference in the lives of individuals and families in need of comfort—right in your home community.
What We Do
Volunteer Opportunities for All
St. Croix Hospice offers many unique volunteer opportunities depending on your personal experiences and preferences.
- Companionship/Friendly Visitor We are looking for individuals to make companionship visits to our patients. As a companionship volunteer you can enrich the lives of terminally ill patients in your community. Visits may involve playing games, reading a book, watching a movie, a walk or just enjoyable conversation. Hours are extremely flexible. Become a friend/companion to a patient when they really need it most! If you have a little extra time and are looking for something rewarding to do, look no further. When assigned to a patient, we will review the details of the patient’s life before we introduce you to them. We provide you with all the training and any resources you may need.
- Administration Provide added support to the hospice staff in all areas of programming except for direct patient care. The volunteer will assist the administrative staff with general office duties associated with special projects, mailings, filing, organizing, phones, and more.
- Bereavement Support families during the 13-month period following the death of a hospice patient, through mailings, support groups and events. Provide information to bereaved families about upcoming grief support and community resources and makes referrals to the bereavement team.
- Virtual Provide support to hospice patients and their loved ones virtually via computer and/or phone such as checking on their supply, medication and equipment needs. Virtual Tuck-In Volunteers will help with anticipating patient, family and caregiver needs and filling requests to set them up with what they need for the weekend.
